Data centres are extremely energy-intensive facilities, with electricity accounting for more than 50% of the operating expenditure in a typical data centre in Singapore. To help these data centres reduce the energy consumption and operating costs, the Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore has developed a Singapore Standard for Green Data Centres.

SS 564 helps organizations to establish systems and processes required to improve the energy efficiency of data centres. The standard provides organizations with a framework (Plan-Do-Check-Act) and methodologies, as well as set of best practices to achieve continuous improvement in the data centre facilities. SS 564 is modelled after ISO 50001 Energy Management System but is specifically tailored to meet the needs of data centres in Singapore.
SS 564 consist of two parts:

Part 1: Energy and environmental management systems,

Part 2: Guidance for energy and environmental management systems.
Recently, SS 564:Part 1 was revised to align the standard requirements with the latest ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System and other ISO related standards on sustainability. With the revision, there will be reduce duplicated efforts for organizations seeking compliance to both SS 564 and ISO 50001 standard.
